Delegation is the appointment of a person (or group of people) to officially represent you. It usually results in
you assigning your authority to another person or group of people.
Why is this important?
- changing responsibilities (ie. people go on leave, holidays, training - you don't want this to stall the process)
- keeps the process flowing
- leaves an audit trail
A formal delegation function, instead of re-assigning worklist items, prevents people from accidentally assigning
their worklist items to the wrong person, potentially exposing sensitive information.
Instead of maintaining delegations manually, it becomes a self-service function enabling users to manage their delegations (if required).
This reduces administration and errors.
It automatically grants the delegate the authority needed to action the request, while the delegation is in effect.
Features are:
- one place for people to delegate to others in the organization
- supports delegation of different approvals to multiple people
- delegations can be open-ended or start and end on specific dates
- ability to designate whether a rule or process can be delegated or not
- not only transfers the worklist and emails, but manages the authority
- eliminates complications with vanilla method of assigning roles/profiles
